How to Set Realistic Salary Expectations

If you plan to find a new job, you probably have several thoughts racing. Consider the perfect employment type, where you want to be, and the best match for your skill set. In addition, you will need to decide the wage you are looking for and be prepared to talk about it with potential employers when you go in for an interview—having trouble determining how to set appropriate expectations for your salary? Here are some suggestions.

Do your research

Do research to determine the average salary for your occupation. For example, how much money do other caretakers in the Bangkok area bring in each month? Or, what is the average monthly salary of a housekeeper in Bangkok? Doing some research on comparable data on the internet can help you understand what is the usual wage for the position that you are thinking about applying for.

Know your worth

When you first start looking for a job, your previous experience, specialized training, and knowledge in a particular field are all advantages that will be helpful to you. You are a one-of-a-kind person who brings a considerable amount of value to employment by the incredible skill set and personality you bring to it. You can expect a higher wage based on your "above and beyond" qualifications, such as degrees, certificates, and years of experience in the field. You need to be able to talk about your worth and the contributions you've made during an interview.

Be willing to negotiate

Although it might be unnerving at times, learning how to negotiate for the wage you want and deserve is an essential skill to develop. Maintain a flexible mindset while demonstrating a determined resolve. Analyze the proposals, and provide feedback on them. If you are willing to accept a lower starting wage, you should negotiate with your new employer to set a date for a wage review and raise at a predetermined period (for example, every three or six months). This gives you more time to show that you are suitable for the position and committed to it.
